Spring has sprung and the RAU Library has decided to put together a display about Country Sports. Country Sports have long been embedded in British society and culture.
The display offers an insight into a wide range of country sports; from shooting to fox-hunting, from angling to deer stalking, and from pheasant to partridge shooting.
It not only focuses on countryside practices, but also touches on related issues of environmental protection and enhancement, countryside law, and attitudes to animals. It also explores sporting art and country sports in the context of social history. A selection of books, interesting articles from the Field magazine, and vintage Burberry ads on displayed. Find out, too, about the famous engraver Thomas Bewick who is renowned for his illustrations of country life in the late 18th century.
The display can be seen in the library, near the self-issue kiosks.
