“The College Farm, 1899-1950”, is the new display in the RAU Library and features a wonderful collection of photographs generously donated to us by Joan Goodworth from Withington, Cheltenham, whose family worked on the College Farm through all of that time. Mr Russell Swanwick, the farm tenant from 1887-1925, was notable for breeding Cotswold sheep, Berkshire swine and thoroughbred horses so these all feature in the display as well as a general layout of the farm land and buildings.

For the University to be given so many old photographs of its past all such good condition and many well catalogued in albums with titles and dates is a real bounty for the archive. The Principal has written to thank Mrs Joan Goodworth and I’m sure many of you would enjoy coming to see her pictures on display.

Quote of the Moment

“But after all, in a library as in a business, the best advertising is that done by good service. The good library is its own best advertisement” – John Cotton Dana
