Email Notices

All library reminder, reservation and overdue notices for any items borrowed from now onwards will be sent to you by email.  These notices will be sent to your College email address only.

We are fairly confident that this transition should run smoothly, but please bear with us if we have to iron out any bugs!

The types of email notices you may receive for items borrowed (or reserved) from now onwards are:

Reservation Notice

You will receive an email you to let you know that an item you have reserved has arrived for you. If you no longer need the item, please let the Library know.  If you do not collect the item within 2 days of the date of the email, your reservation will be cancelled. The item will then go to the next person in the reservation queue, or returned to the shelf.

Reminder Notice

You will receive a reminder notice 2 days before your items are due back to the library. Please note: this is a courtesy only. Non-receipt of this notice due to your inbox being full, not checking your email, or network failure, is not an acceptable excuse for items becoming overdue.

You can also check when your items are due by accessing your library account online via the Library Catalogue, and by noting the due date stamped in the inside of your items.

Overdue Notice

If you do not return your items on time you will receive an overdue notice.  The library will issue 2 overdue notices (one at 1 day overdue, another at 14 days overdue). If you still do not return the item after 21 days overdue you will be charged for the replacement cost of the items plus a £10 non-refundable administration fee.

Recall Notice

If you have an item on loan, and another user reserves that item, you will be emailed a Recall Notice. You are not required to bring the item back early. The notice is to remind you to return the item by its due date, because if the item is reserved by another user you will not be able to renew your loan. You also could receive a large fine if the item is not returned promptly.

Overdue Recall Notice

If an item you have on loan is reserved by another user, and you do not return the item by the due date, you will be emailed an Overdue Recall Notice. A notice will be emailed at 1 day overdue. Another notice will be emailed at 7 days overdue. If you still do not return the item after 14 days overdue, you will be charged for the replacement cost of the item, plus a non-refundable £10 administration fee.

Final Notice

If you do not return items you have on loan despite being sent 2 overdue notices, you will be charged for the replacement cost of the item, plus a non-refundable administration fee of £10. You will be emailed a Final Notice to inform you that these charges (and the overdue fines that have accumulated) have been transferred to you College Account. Your tutor will also be informed that you have failed to return items to the library.

"it is not enough just to be good at what you do anymore. You also have to be adept at communicating the good and what it means to your customers" - Melinda Kenneway, 2007, Serials 20 (2) Marketing the Library
